Artist’s Note:
Living two hours away from the nearest town I often encounter all kinds of critters on my travels and I always try to keep a camera handy to capture some reference images. I saw this particular coyote at Alkali Lake Ranch on my way into Williams Lake. He was lame on his back left leg and wasn’t able to dart away quickly, as coyotes usually do. He limped his way up the snowy hillside and stopped to look back at me long enough to take a few great shots.
The colour combinations were what really drew my eye in the scene I saw before me watching the coyote. I loved how the snow and dead grass match the coyote’s colouring and I tried to convey this in my interpretation.
